The Christmas Capital of Arkansas
For the past decade, the City of Batesville has steadily positioned itself as the Christmas Capital of Arkansas. What began as simple light displays on public buildings has transformed into the largest free light display in the State and has now spawned numerous holiday-themed events throughout the month of December positioning Batesville has the destination for an experience that would make Clark Griswold proud.
White River Wonderland
- The central attraction during the holiday season in Batesville, Arkansas is without a doubt, the White River Wonderland light display. Located at beautiful Riverside Park along Chaney Drive, the display features over one and a half million lights and welcomed over one-hundred thousand visitors last year. Beyond the lack of admission cost, the feature that makes the display so unique is the variety of ways visitors get to enjoy it. Patrons may drive their own cars through the display while listening to the coordinated music through their radios. There is also an option to take a horse-drawn carriage or custom-built train through the display. Want to really experience the beauty up close? The entire display is now walkable with illuminated trails throughout the park. Guests can even take it a step further and enjoy ice skating on the large stage. A trip the White River Wonderland is one that won’t be soon forgotten and one you will never regret making. Very Melba Christmas Movie Series
- “A Very Melba Christmas” was launched by theater owners, Adam & Mandi Curtwright and Joe & Janelle Shell in 2016. Since then, thousands of moviegoers have made it their own tradition to watch their favorite classic Christmas movies at the historic Melba Theater on the big screen. Much like the Christmas light display at Riverside Park, this event has expanded each year and now each movie showing attracts over 300 guests. The Melba team has done a fantastic job of customizing each movie experience.
Taking in the classic “Christmas Vacation”? You can expect to see Cousin Eddie greeting guests in front of his infamous RV. Taking a ride on the “Polar Express”, expect to hear little bells ringing at the end of the movie. These personal touches, great customer service, historic atmosphere, and FREE admission have created a movie experience unlike any other. Check out https://www.facebook.com/melbatheater/
